Sammy, the canine abstract artist

sammy-foxhound-painter.jpg

Thanks to Cute Overload we have the story of another animal artist:

Sammy, a foxhound mix, uses a paintbrush attached to a rubber bone to paint a canvas.

This picture were taken on June 12, 2007, at a gallery at Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD. Mary Stadelbacher, owner of Shore Service Dogs, has a collection of abstract paintings daubed by her three service dogs in training.

I really like animal art. Please show more of it in the future. Anyway, aren’t dogs color blind? How do they know what color to select for their masterpieces? Well in my opinion the choices they make are just fine. The fact that they pick up a brush and seem to enjoy it is what art is all about. The fact that we enjoy it is just fascinating too. So keep up the good work Sammy! You may just be the kind of person—I mean dog—that we wish we could be—-fun loving and artistic.
    Thanks MadSilence!

An interesting point Julia. It may be that canine artists suffer from a form of sexism similar to that experienced by female human artists. The human art world has experienced its share of prejudice against: women artists, artists of color, even heterosexual realist painters (think abstract expressionism). Should dogs be any different?
