The Art of the Comeback, or “Post No-posting Guilt Trip”

Hi all!  Long time no type, or as we say in Japan, “hisashiburi!”  You’re probably wondering where the heck I’ve been these past few weeks, leaving my poor Dad to do all the work in updating the site… or not, depending on how you feel about the rather *cough* light content of my posts.  However, I am here to prove that these last few weeks were not in vain, and I have in fact brought you tales of high adventure in the rice fields of Japan.  Here’s a few little tidbits of what I’ve been up to during school summer vacation (which, unlike Western schools, is neither the end of the school year nor without homework.  In fact it’s right in the middle of the academic year, 6 weeks long, teachers don’t get it off and kids have exams the day they get back.  And we thought we had it bad!).

Rice ready to harvest in a field near my apaato.

A “gassho” style farmhouse in Shirakawa-go, UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The purification basin at Kiyomizudera, Kyoto.

A beautiful waterfall in the Hakusan foothills where we ate “nagashi somen.”

A cliff side shrine at Nata-dera, center of the Shingon sect of Buddhism.

PS:  What’s a post without a little more Engrish?

I prefer men with dandism, dammit!  Stenciled on the back of a fancy sports car in Shirakawa-go.
