Cross-cultural eggscommunication?
Forgive me for the silly title ^^;;; Buuuut speaking of Easter and eggs and the like, I love the latest post on Blue Lotus. I’m not sure I’ve told you all about Blue Lotus before, but it’s a super food blog by a Canadian girl married and living in Tokyo. She’s great at Japanese and writes some great posts on food and culture here in Japan. Her latest project has been pysanky, the Easter European art of wax-resist dyed Easter eggs! Coming from my Polish background (my Babcia used to have piles of real and wood eggs in the house) it’s very interesting to see how she adapts some traditional Japanese designs to this European tradition.

Not sure what to do with all those eggs? Check out Gourmet’s story on eggs around the world for some inspiration… they’ve also got some really tasty looking egg recipes in the database!

For some reasons, Japanese arts look a lot more like European arts on the eggs. I guess this is a sort of thing that’s unique to a culture, and nothing can change it.
