Peeps Show II: The Return of the King

Who knew that marshmallow treats could inspire such creativity?  The Washginton Post held its second annual Sunday Source Peeps Diorama Contest in March 2008.  The contest drew more than 800 sugar-filled entries.  Check out the slide show from Peeps Show II.

My favorite?  Peep Art by Ilana Greenstein and Jane Dokko. “Their creation exudes the austerity of a museum, but within the mounted frames it’s colorful chaos. And let’s not forget: Admiring the exhibit are Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick themselves.”

Peep Art is witty and intelligent with multiple levels of meaning.  Think of Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein.  It’s pop art at its best.  Warhol would’ve loved it!

And here’s another image of these iconic snacks.  Peeps painting from Nancy Bea of www.genrecookshop.com.

Not familiar with Peeps over here in kiwiland (NZ), but would love to see our native bird incorporated somehow into the Easter festivities…ahh, now there’s an idea…lol!
Re: Art and Fear - now that sounds like a good read - would like to hear your thoughts on it once you’ve finished reading it. I’ll try and track down a copy myself!

Deborah, Peeps add a bit of fun & whimsy to our lives. I have a confession to make: I don’t like to eat ‘em.

Governess, it’s hard to believe there are no Peeps in NZ. CAB leaves Japan to visit Australia this year. Can she ship you some marshmallow treats?

Anthony, you’re so right. It’s the nature of contemporary art…for better or worse.
