Fantastic post. I've always liked those miniature books, even made a few when I was a child. Found our blog from the post you left on mine, www.bentpage.wordpress.com. Thanks for the info about NYC Public Library and their digital images.

Crystal, thanks for the link to Woot! Fantastic photos. And yes, Leafless, Jell-O still exists. It wasn't so long ago when my kitchen was full of Jello-O jigglers (http://www.kraftfoods.com/jello/explore/zone/jigglers/). And JafaBrit, we have hundreds of cookbooks, many vintage, as my waistline attests to. Thanks to all for your comments. MadSilence

You can get good book recommendations right here on the local blogs. If you are interested in the Caribbean, may I humbly suggest my book, An Island Away. It takes place on Aruba and you can find a brief excerpt and links to much more at my blog: www.bentpage.wordpress.com. Thanks for your consideration.

I'm glad you liked the Hyde Park Opera House curtain. The Painted Theater Curtain Project is in the midst of restoring all 177 historic painted curtains in Vermont. You can see them by going to our web site. The Hyde Park curtain is one of 6 Charles Andrus curtains, all of which are now stabilized for another 100 years of use and display. At least we hope so! If anyone is interested in learning more about painted curtains in Vermont or the rest of New England, please contact me.

One of my absolute favorite cookbooks is "The New Joys of Jell-O." Oh my...jell-o salad and all. No way can you convince me to eat jell-o with lettuce and chicken buried inside it's jiggling folds. Blech. But the awesome 70s pictures are super cool. Here's a link to another blogger who has the same book: http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=4497

Jell-O shots in college were the best. And growing up my mom always made the jiggly Knox Blox squares...you mixed Knox with Jell-O to make it firm up a bit then you can cut it into shapes. Now I only get Jell-O when we go to my in-laws. It always makes me smile when I open the fridge and see the little bowls of red goo.

A dear patron at the art fair last year was imprisoned in Norway during WII. These Norwegian internees made up songs about America, who would come and rescue them.

And, my beloved father did.
